FATAL ERROR: Pocket Sevens. I was tangled with the other big stack at the table where I raised 3x-ish BB in LP and he, sitting one the button, raised it up to T5.6k and I called. The flop came Q♦T♠3♦ and I check and he bets 3.6k and I raise it up 7.2k. I knew the flop had missed him, I had him on AK, AJ or Kx. I knew I was still in good shape. Then he calls my check raise. Oh shit. Turn is 8♣ and we both check. I think that was my second mistake in the hand, the first was calling his pre flop raise. The river brings out the J♠ and now there are 4 over cards to my wired sevens. He pushes his last 6k in and is all in. I timeout. He said he had AJ and it was the river that really killed me, along with the two mistakes. I didn’t have to play the hand. I could have sailed pretty nicely into the money. If I were still playing, I would have been at the final table. I played a hand that I should have easily let go. Lesson learned.
I finished the tournament in 20th place, one off the bubble boy/girl. The hand was a riot, I had paired my 8 and he paired his K. We both played that hand well, I had Q8 and new that I could beat most of the random hands and he was playing under Harrington’s 10 to 1 rule. That was the second race that I lost. But I played REALLY well and all I lost was $11, but I did learn a valuable lesson, which should bring in a lot more than $11 in the long run.
