So.. the trend continues of me being kicked out of a SnG when all the chips go in BEFORE the River AND I’m a HUGE favorite to win. I’ve upped the limits on my SnG to include the $30 and $50 buyins, because actual poker is played there. Nothing like the donktastic $20 and lower tables. I’ve played two $50 and one $30.. and here are my exits from all three, my holdings are in bold:

$50 #1: A7s vs 76o - Everything is in pre flop. I had an M of 6 with antes in play and the caller had me covered by $400. Turns a 6 and I’m busted.. out in 5th.
$30: AQ vs TT - Once again, everything in pre flop. TT had me covered by 1200. Flop is xQx. Turn is a T. Out in 5th.
$50 #2: Q♥Q♦ vs 2♠2♣ - SB vs BB. I was the SB and called.. he pushed and I insta-call. He has me covered by T$90. All heart flop. I thought to myself.. it would be funny to see the 2 of hearts.. I should learn to hold my tongue. 2♥ on the turn.. I have my flush. He gained 10 outs. Board pairs on the River. I take my exit in 6th.

I’ll give it one more try.. and if I lose when I’m ahead AGAIN, for four in a row, I’ll just stick to donkey poker and forget about learning to master this game and playing in this years WSOP. Time for some sleep… when I’m wide awake and on tilt.

So I’ve never been one to complete a Donkey Challenge, I’ve never really taken them seriously. Now that I am going to play in the WSOP this year, I’m making a conscious decision to play better, to improve myself. The Donkey Challenges are a great way to do this. For 2006 it was take a deposit and triple it up, 2007 was my SnG Attack. For 2008 it’s a combination of the two. Taking a look at sharkscope for myself, it’s damn pathetic.

SharkScop data for me on PokerStars as of 1/31/2008

But since I started to focus on my goal, I’ve started to make a rebound. Around the first AIPS event this year, I made a funds transfer for a player that I knew on Full Tilt and he transfered funds to me on PokerStars. At the time, my PokerStars account was $0.06. After the transfer I had $11.06. I’ve taken that amount and through the SnG Attack I have brought my total up to $64.12, just with sticking to the $5 STT. The graph above, which you can refresh over at SharkScope, reflects this change. Currently I’m in my longest positive streak ever.

So, my Donkey Challenge for 2008 is, complete the previous years DC’s and take my SharkScope stats into the black. I have a nice hill to climb there, but if I focus and play smart, I should be able to do this. I have a reason to do this. I want to do this.

So far, this month I am doing ok in the poker world. After thinking about how I have not completed any of the Donkey Challenges for 2006/2007, mu Donkey Challenge is to take poker seriously. I was mostly playing for fun and most of the time making bad choices. My own fault, just nothing thinking enough and trying to power through. I’ll never be able to make the next step if I don’t take poker seriously.

Since flipping that switch, I’ve cashed in all 4 of the $5 SnG’s that I’ve played in and took 78 out of 1500+ in last nights Midnight Madness tournament. I might be doing a light switch rave with that serious switch, so I will wait a few weeks and see how I am doing there. I will be resetting the DC data later today.

I’ve also decided to play in two WSOP events this year, which two, I’m not certain, but I will be playing in two events because, 1) It’s something that I’ve wanted to do and have watched fellow bloggers play in, 2) My in-laws would LOVE IT, 3) it’s the WSOP damnit!

[updated] I believe the Summer Classic traditionally is played the same weekend the ladies event is played, so with that said, I think the Summer Classic will be on Sat, Jun 7th, with nothing that I feel comfortable dropping loot to play in (unless I figure out what a shootout is (Event 17 - June 9th)). So, looking at the event list, I think I may have to play in event 27 (June 14th), No-Limit Hold’em. Doesn’t that event sound like tournament that a blogger needs to win? The next event after that would be event 32, june 17th.

Now, I’m not going to stay in Vegas from Summer Classic (if it is on the 7th), through the 20th (when I make Day 3), too much time away from work and too long in a hotel, I really hope I do not have to choose between the WPBT Summer Classic and the WSOP. But it will probably come down to that. Either play in the Summer Classic and do the WSOP in event’s that I’m not comfortable with, or skip the Summer Classic and focus on the WSOP. That sucks. I guess I will know more when the dates for the Summer Classic are set in stone.

I also have a holiday post that I should finish, so I will get to that tonight as well.

Oh.. hand of the moment, I call it Wasted Aces

Pauly finished 119th out of 2,778 players and won $4,470 in prize money in Event #38, $1,500 NL.

But here’s the best part from Day 1 of the event in Pauly’s own words..

Around 2:45pm, I found The Hammer.

“Raise,” I said and tossed in 700 from the button. The big blind defended. The flop was Kh-Qc-3s. He checked and I bet 1500. He called. The turn was the 6c. He checked and I bet 2000. He folded and I showed 7s-2h. That hand put me past the 10K mark. Grubby would have been proud.

FUCK YES! Pauly Drops the HAMMER during the WSOP! I bow to the Dr. You sir, are the MAN!

Congrats are in order to brdweb. He took down Al’s Blogger Bracelet Race to play in WSOP Event #15. Read more about the Blogger Bracelet Race at Al’s place. I was a no show for two reasons, my cousin from NY was in town and the family was having a BBQ 2 hours away from my home. Even if this BBQ was on Saturday or next week, I STILL would have missed the tourney. Thanks to a very nice power outage. From around 6pm to 2am we had no power. Sure a lap top would work, but the DSL router was out. No intertubes love for me.

Al has already setup another event, so I will commence with teh pimpage.

Tournament name: Chasers/Blogger Bracelet Race
When: Sunday, May 13th, 7pm ET
Game: NLHE Deepstack
Buyin: $24+2 or token
Password: riverchasers

Man those Freerolls for the WSOP are crazy. I think I played 12 of them today (a mix of WSOP and Poker After Dark freerolls) just for the fun of it. LaParka has been doing really well in them, making many final tables, but never a first place finish. I think he’s told me that he’s placed second around 3 times?

I made past a few brakes, but usually busted out in the top 50%, some top 90%. I think it was the 8th one that I signed up for that I made the final table. I think it was the first time a final table on Full Tilt didn’t have the Final Table Background.

I sucked out on daveyboy52 to river my flush to his pair of tens on the flop.

Now to make the final table next weekend!

I’m sure most of you are aware of the WSOP events that will be played during the WBPT gathering time frame, but just in case you don’t, here they are:

June 6, 2007 Wednesday 12 noon 10 No-Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $2,000.00
June 6, 2007 Wednesday 5 PM 11 World Championship Seven Card Stud (3 day event) $5,000.00
June 7, 2007 Thursday 12 noon 12 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed (3 day event) $1,500.00
June 8, 2007 Friday 12 noon 13 World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $5,000.00
June 8, 2007 Friday 5 PM 14 Seven Card Stud (2day event) $1,500.00
June 9, 2007 Saturday 12 noon 15 No-Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $1,500.00
June 9, 2007 Saturday 5 PM 16 H.O.R.S.E. (3 day event) $2,500.00
June 10, 2007 Sunday 12 noon 17 World Championship Ladies Event No-Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $1,000.00
June 10, 2007 Sunday 5 PM 18 World Championship Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $5,000.00
June 11, 2007 Monday 12 noon 19 No-Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $2,500.00
June 11, 2007 Monday 5 PM 20 Seven Card Stud Hi-low-8 or Better (3 day event) $2,000.00

I’m planning to try and satellite into one of the events above, so lets see which ones I can actually play in:

I’d like to limit it to the $1,500 events.. so that thins the herd a bit
I’m leaving on the 11th, so any 3 day event after the 8th is iffy..
I’m not a lady, so the ladies events are out..
the WPBT Event is on the 9th, so kill any event that may be on that day..

and we are left with….

Shit. Nothing.

Now that makes me sad.
